Rare Genomics Institute and BodiMetrics Partner to Provide Rare Disease Patients with Wearable Devices

Washington, D.C. Aug 2 2023.  The Rare Genomics Institute (RG) is pleased to announce that Bodimetrics, a medical device company that specializes in wearable ring oximeter that is accurate in all skin tones, will continue their support of the RG RareWear program by donating 40 circul+ smart rings to allow patients with cardiac, respiratory, and other conditions, as well as their families and clinicians, to monitor metrics relevant to their disease area and benefit from the real-time information these devices provide.

BodiMetrics is dedicated to developing and delivering innovative non-invasive devices that harness the power of technology to improve the wellness of patients wherever they may be. Thecircul+ Smart Ring is lightweight, adjustable in size, and easily slides on the finger. It is designed to help better understand sleep quality and how changes in fitness and lifestyle impact sleep quality. It helps improve the quality of sleep using customizable O2 thresholds and tracks SpO2, Heart Rate, and Motion for up to 12 hours. Additionally, circul+ is clinically validated and accurate for all skin tones supporting health equity for all.

“The circul+ smart Ring is the only ring oximeter on the market that is accurate in all skin tones supporting an unmet need in various minority communities,” said Mark Goettling, CEO of BodiMetrics.  “The combination of continuous blood oxygenation during daytime and sleep, circul+ Smart Ring provides patients unparalleled access to critical health data that can help them live longer and more productive lives”

“We are excited to receive support from the wearable technology leader and so are our patients,” said Jimmy Lin, President & CEO of Rare Genomics Institute. “It is a great opportunity to try out a new approach to monitor and analyze unusual health conditions in real-time.”

“It is a great honor to participate in the RareWear program and the unique opportunity to help people in a challenging situation with our cutting-edge technology that is proven across many acute and chronic conditions,” said Mark Goettling, CEO of BodiMetrics. “We look forward to deploying our circul+ Rings and improving the quality of life of Rare Ware’s patients”.

The purpose of the Rare Genomics “RareWear” program is to empower patients by providing them with devices that enable the monitoring and management of the many symptoms and conditions that can be associated with rare diseases. The circul+ Smart Ring is the only ring oximeter with continuous blood oxygenation (SpO2) and Heart Rate (HR) tracking for sleep, activity, and overall wellness. Patients interested in applying for access to circul+ smart ring can apply to be registered in the RareWear program here. About BodiMetrics

BodiMetrics, the global leader in medical ring sensor technology and patient monitoring platform that includes a smart ring, mobile app, AI analytics and clinical cloud platform to measure, track and report on pulmonary and cardiac health.  The circul+ smart Ring is pending FDA 510(k) Clearance and has been proven in multiple clinical trials validating the efficacy and reliability of circul+ Ring’s pulse oximeter in dark-pigmented participants, positioning it as a superior continuous blood oxygen monitoring device for minority populations in the U.S. and globally.

It is now known that the reliability of pulse oximeters, noninvasive devices for assessing heart rate and oxygen-saturated hemoglobin, are likely inaccurate in patients with darker pigmented skin due to existing oximetry technology and calibration bias toward Caucasian skin tones.  Numerous published studies from John Hopkins, University of Michigan, NEJM, and others have shown that black patients were at higher risk for hypoxemia and subsequent negative health impacts due to less accurate pulse oximeter measurements relative to those of white patients.
